Portland Community College’s Rock Creek campus celebrated the opening of the newly renovated Building 5 at the start of January 2016. The $23-million expansion constructed by Fortis Construction and designed by opsis architecture and catena consulting engineers, is now a prominent feature and gateway to the PCC Rock Creek campus. The striking red hue and cantilevered second floor immediately draws attention to the finished addition.
The majority of the new 62,000 SF addition features a student commons cafeteria and dining area with smaller areas dedicated to a student bookstore, classrooms fully retrofitted with audio/video, and a multi-purpose fitness studio. Building 5, as well as the handful of PCC Rock Creek buildings undergoing renovations or additions, align with the wishes to keep the open-feel of the community campus by expanding and making better use of the buildings already on-site.
