Provided structural engineering services for this $25 million, three building skilled nursing facility that will house 96 residents nestled in the hills of Southwest Portland. The buildings will include various common areas for meetings and religious ceremonies. The buildings will be constructed of two-way post tensioned concrete flat plates, but will be clad with wood siding that will enhance the residential experience. catena helped to develop a column grid system for the residential buildings that maximized the economy of construction while preserving program space. Through use of computer aided design for the post tensioned slabs, catena was able to investigate multiple options for column grid spacing with speed thus providing information to the team that was invaluable for the decision process. catena also was able to develop a column grids for two of the three buildings that were supported by tuck-under parking in a manner that minimized costly column transfer structure.
