The building touts buckling refrained braced frames, mass timber framing and cold-formed steel and supplemental structural steel cladding backup support system. The new portion was a mixture of structural steel with composite metal decking and concrete fill floors. A performance-based seismic retrofit to the existing school was completed using ASCE 41. The building form utilizes exterior glazing to maximize natural light and facilitate learning, and the exposed structural elements can be used as an educational tool. The project was completed in 2017 with $21.4 million in construction costs.
