Provided structural engineering for the design of this 26,500-sf civic building housing a library, city hall, community room, and retail/office space. With the building located adjacent to an operating railroad, the design included special considerations to acoustical and vibration concerns without severe construction cost increases. . The creative, yet practical structural approach complimented the architectural design concept, and remained within the City's established budget. Exposed branching steel elements combined with generous skylights were designed to create a bright and approachable reading room for the library. Constructed of masonry, steel and wood, the construction budget was approximately $7.6 million. While with another firm, John McDonald served as Principal-in-Charge.
